We can currently do little apart from keep a watch on progress, particularly the details of any further alterations to the planning application. Residents’ opinions will always be put to Lewes DC, particularly about affordable homes, traffic, appearance and so on.

Currently the proposal is for 25% of the homes to be “affordable”, for the inclusion of a children’s play area and a park. £350k will be made available for Seaford TC to build a football academy in the town within 7 years.

  1. Uncertainty hangs over the provision of a replacement playing field. Bellway announced that the development was to be delivered in two stages, meaning that the cash will not be paid to STC until after the developer has formally signed off the process. A date for that is imponderable.
Unless a suitable site can then be identified and purchased by the Town Council, and the cost of providing a car park, changing rooms and floodlights – plus a sum for future maintenance – kept within the ‘bonus’, that cash will be lost, along with any prospect of a badly needed recreation space. Suitable locations within Seaford which would get planning permission are very few and far between, if indeed there are any at all.
